Life can feel very difficult at certain periods. In those times, you literally feel like you are stuck, overwhelmed, and stressed.
What you need in those periods is not motivation. Being motivated to be strengthened is good but you see strength is different from motivation.
Being strong during difficult times does not involve listening to a podcast or having a preacher say nice things about you.
It involves taking root in God and His word which is why I have compiled these prayers for strength during difficult times.
They are for you to use them to pray and become strengthened during the times you face difficulties.
We can take a cue from Jesus’ life. At the garden of Gethsemane, His strength failed Him and He went to God in prayer and as the Bible records, angels came to strengthen Him.
If Jesus needed to be strengthened, so do we and these prayers for strength in difficult times will help you.
Prayers for Strength During Difficult Times
Father, I fix my gaze on You. I refuse to look around me and consider my situation. I choose to see You in all of these things I am going through
“Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice” – Isaiah 41:10.
The Bible says we should not be afraid and not look around us. One of the ways to draw strength from God is to look at Him. It does not matter what is going on, looking unto God brings us the strength that we need to walk through life.
It is just like Peter who was walking on water. For as long as he was looking unto Jesus, he walked but the moment he took his gaze off the Master and looked at the sea, then he began to sink.
You will cave in difficult times if you continue to look at the problems. Say this prayer for strength in difficult times:
Father, I reject fear because You are with me even when I cannot feel anything but weakness. Uphold me today, Lord, when I have no more energy left to stand. Strengthen the parts of me that have gone numb under the weight of pain. In Jesus name, Amen.
Lord, I ask that you strengthen me. Send help to me. I am weak and the weight of this situation is crunching harder than I can bear but I know You are strong and powerful. Strengthen me O Lord.
This prayer for strength in difficult times might sound helpless but yes, it is wise.
You see, the Bible does not tell us to deny the existence of the mountain. It says we should say to the mountain. So, we can acknowledge our weakness to God and apply for His strength.
We have this promise in Psalm 20:2 which says:
Send you help from the sanctuary and support, refresh, and strengthen you from Zion.
The Bible also says in Isaiah 40:29;
He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound].
Father, I pray for grace – just as you gave Apostle Paul – let your grace saturate my life and show your strength through my weakness
But He said to me, My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and [a]show themselves most effective in [your] weakness – 2 Corinthians 12:9
Like Apostle Paul, when you are weak and facing times that seem too turbulent for you, all you need is for the grace of God and His strength to show up.
One reason why I like this prayer is because God can use any situation to show His glory and this prayer gives Him the permission to use your current situation as He deems fit.
Father, cause me to rise like an eagle – high above these storms, these challenges – let my strength be renewed and may I come out victorious
But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. – Isaiah 40:29
There is strength renewal that happens when you wait on the Lord and that is what you need when you are going through tough times.
So pray saying:
- Lord, I am tired in ways words can’t explain — give me Your strength today. Breathe new life into my spirit and renew what has been drained.
- Father, I ask that you restore my mind, my emotions, my physical body — all of it.
Father, remind me of Your Presence with me always. Let me be confident that You are with me and do not let the devil steal that away from me
I have found out that the devil tries to make us feel like God has abandoned us.
He forces us to begin to think that we are alone and God is not with us when things that to go in ways that you never envisaged.
This is why you should pray this prayer for strength in difficult times:
Lord, when I forget You are with me and start to doubt, remind me that you are always with me. Just a nudge, an encouragement from Your Spirit to mine.
I love this scripture Joshua 1:9;
Have not I commanded you? Be strong, vigorous, and very courageous. Be not afraid, neither be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
It is something I take to God whenever I feel like the hard seasons of my life are lasting too long and God does not feel close.
Father, I cry today. Please, deliver me from my troubles. Pull me out of this situation by Your power, mercy and jealousy O Lord
When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their distress and troubles. – Psalm 34:17
This is a powerful prayer for strength during difficult times. It does not really ask for strength but for a deliverance.
Sometimes, God just needs to bring you out. No negotiations, nothing. Just straight up deliverance.
Like He did with Paul and Silas and Peter when they were locked up in prison.
Lord, equip me to stand strong in the face of adversity, let me not quake or quaver, let me be bold to face uncertain times and precarious seasons
The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility] – Habakkuk 3:19
God is our Strength but what is most important for me to note from this verse above is that God can make our feet like hinds’ feet.
The reason He does this is to that we can be equipped to face hard times.
In the previous prayer point, I said we can pray for God to deliver us right. Here, I am saying sometimes God will not bring deliverance, you will have to go through it.
You will need to grow a tough skin to depression, to opposition, to poverty, to lack, and other challenging situations of life.
This prayer for strength during difficult times is what you need in such a condition.
