A lot could make you suffer emotional illness. From heartbreak, betrayal, the loss of someone, and much more. Aside from those, depression, anxiety, sadness, bitterness, frustration, trauma could make you a victim of ill emotional health. While many typically advise therapy (which I am not against), I believe by prayer we can achieve results as well.
Through these prayers for emotional healing, anyone facing one emotional challenge or the other will find speedy healing. There’s a promise from God about our emotional health in 2 Timothy 1 verse 7.
For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind
What this means is that God expects us to have a sound mind which directly relates to a stable emotional health. When you have a sound mind, you have healed from past trauma, aren’t easily moved by frustration or depressing conditions, and stay positive and optimistic no matter what. That’s God’s plan for you and this can be achieved as we begin to pray the prayers in this post.
Let’s get into it.

Heavenly Father, I Surrender My Emotional Pain Into Your Loving Hands. Help Me Release Any Bitterness, Resentment, Or Unforgiveness That May Be Weighing Me Down
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. – 1 Peter 5:7
To be free from the load of emotional trauma, all you need to do is surrender it all to Jesus. The anchor text lets us know that He cares for us and because of that disposition, He is willing to take all our anxiety from us if only we will give it all to Him.
In Matthew 11 verse 28, Jesus said “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]”
If you are overburdened with the cares of life, with frustration, with anger, with anxiety, and what have you, come to Jesus with them and He will give you rest.
Lord, Grant Me The Peace That Surpasses All Understanding. Calm My Troubled Heart And Fill Me With Tranquility, Knowing That You Are In Control Of My Emotions
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27
This prayer is a prayer for peace from God. The joy of this kind of peace is that it is more than whatever trouble you can experience in the world. It is peace that comes from knowing that God is in control and He is with you.
In the text, we see that there can be some form of peace from the world. Jesus says “not as the world gives.” The world can suggest things to give us peace when we go through challenges like therapy, substance abuse, vacations, and so on.
However, true peace can only come from Jesus and knowing His thoughts and plans for your life. So, pray for the peace of God to fill your heart completely.
Father, Heal The Wounds Of My Past That Continue to haunt me. Bring Your light into the dark corners of my soul and replace painful memories with Your love and grace
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows] – Psalm 147:3 (AMP)
God can heal the wounds of your past as you can see from the scripture above. It doesn’t matter how deep they are or how painful they are, our God is a healer.
When you come to win with wounds from your past, He doesn’t ignore them nor does He focus on your physical wounds or sicknesses alone. For someone who cares about you enough to number the hair on your head, why wouldn’t He be concerned about your past hurt and fix you up?
Trust God to heal up every hurt from your past as you pray.
God, Help Me Extend The Same Compassion To Myself As You Do. Teach Me To Nurture And Care for Myself, Embracing My Emotions Without Judgment Or Self-condemnation
The second is like it and is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these. – Mark 12:31 (AMP)
Many people need to learn to love and care for themselves. There’s the idea that people treat others as they treat themselves but from experience, I have found out that it is possible to treat others better than you treat yourself.
All of these boils down to knowing that God loves you and values you. When you place as much value on yourself, like God does, you will begin to treat yourself and feelings better. Stop invalidating yourself because of something someone said or how someone made you feel.
Pray this prayer and break out from any shackle of low self-esteem, lack of confidence, comparison, and the likes.
Heavenly Father, I Release My Anxieties And Worries Into Your Capable Hands. Grant Me The Strength To Cast My Burdens Upon You, Knowing That You Will Sustain Me
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. – Philippians 4:6
Anxiety is often the reason we aren’t happy with ourselves. We want to be in control, we want to have everything working fine, we want the relationship to go in a certain way, and so on. When we become anxious, things could go out of hand and lead to depression.
Thankfully, Apostle Paul urges us not to be anxious. He gives us an alternative. Instead of being anxious about stuff, let’s take it to God in prayer. Note this and never forget it: God cares about the tiniest details of your life, even the acne on your face.
You will be amazed at the level of peace and calmness you will enjoy when you take every of your burden, both the ones that seem irrelevant and inconsequential, to God in prayer. Try it today and you’ll be awed.
Lord, Empower Me With The Strength to Overcome Emotional Challenges. Grant Me Resilience In The Face Of Adversity, Knowing That You Are My Refuge And Fortress
I can do all this through him who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:13
God’s strength can be deployed in your direction to help you overcome the challenges that come your way attempting to sway you off emotional stability. No matter how hard you try, the world will always throw problems your way that are calculated at unsettling your emotional balance.
The good news is, we have an assurance from God. Aside from His peace, He strengthens us to face any challenge that comes our way. Having prayed for peace, let’s pray for the strength to overcome the challenges that will come our way.
God, Heal The Brokenness In My Relationships. Help Me Find Forgiveness And Reconciliation, and Grant Me The Wisdom to Nurture Healthy Connections That Bring Healing To My Soul
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. – Colossians 3:13
Broken relationships are, to a large extent, an issue with forgiveness. When people hurt us and we no longer want to forgive, the relationship breaks down. One of the many things I have made up my mind to do is to always forgive people no matter what they do.
It isn’t easy but with the help of God, it is possible. The Bible commands us to always forgive and when we pray for God to help us carry out this holy order, He will be willing to do so.
Heavenly Father, Transform My Thoughts And Renew My Mind. Help Me Focus On Positive And Uplifting Thoughts, Casting Aside Negativity And Embracing The Truth Of Your Love And Grace
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will – Romans 12 verse 2
This is a very important prayer to pray for emotional healing. The transformation of our thoughts and mind is critical to achieve perfect emotional health.
Our experiences and the hurts from the past can build wrong psychological and relational character traits. These not only affect us but cause a strain in our relationships, even divinely ordained ones.
Pray for God’s help in casting aside the negative thought patterns that you’ve built up from previous experiences and trust Him to help you see people and relationships as He sees them.
Lord, Restore The Joy And Happiness That Has Been Stolen From My Heart. Fill Me With Your Spirit, Restoring My Emotions And Guiding Me Towards A Place Of Wholeness
You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy. – Psalm 30:11
God can restore joy and happiness to you. He can take away the garments of depression and sadness that have been placed on you and in their place give you robes of gladness.
Trust God as you pray to restore your emotions and bring you to a place of rest and wholeness. Where nothing that the devil tries to remind you of troubles you anymore. Hallelujah.
Final Thoughts
I trust that God will heal you from every emotional health challenge in the name of Jesus. As you pray these prayers, God will answer you speedily and settle all that concerns your emotional health. Glory to Jesus.
