This image represents the essence of prayers for difficult times when you don’t know what to pray, illustrating hope and faith.

They are not your regularly prayers.

The goal of these prayers is to find out how to pray or what to pray about. Remember that the times we are speaking about are times when:

  1. You feel overwhelmed and do not know what to pray
  2. You are troubled but don’t have an idea what it is about
  3. You sense something in your spirit but don’t know what it is
  4. You have tried to pray your way out of a situation but it seems to grow worse.

These prayers for difficult times when you don’t know what to pray will help you know what to pray and how to pray.

In moments like these, many find solace in prayers for difficult times when you don’t know what to pray, as they help in articulating feelings to God.

Father, I confess my helplessness in prayer right now. I ask that Your Spirit come help me as I do not know what to pray and how to pray

Romans 8:26“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

This is where I will always begin. When I am not sure of what to pray about, I admit that weakness and ask the Spirit of God to come help me.

I am comforted in the fact that God has already told me that I do not know what to pray for as I am supposed to and His Spirit is there to help me.

What better time to call on the Spirit’s help than when I am in a difficult situation and unsure what to do?

Father, rid me of anxiety. Bring clarity on this present times to me. I need to know what is happening and how to be aligned for whatever Your will in this season is.

Philippians 4:6–7“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

One thing that clouds your sensitivity is anxiety. When anxiety creeps into your heart, you will respond to something you were supposed to ignore or give the wrong response entirely.

That is why Apostle Paul warns us to “Be anxious for nothing.” It is not prophetic for me to say in difficult times you become anxious. It is normal. That is why we pray to get rid of anxiety in our heart.

Lord, now more than ever I need You. I am not powerful in myself. I need Your grace. Show me you are closer than any friend or relative of mine.

Psalm 34:18“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

In difficult times, it is only required that we draw closer to the Anchor of our Soul.

There is the temptation to find ways to fix the problem. You want to call friends. You want to reach out to someone who promised to help. You want to forget your problems and doomscroll on social media.

These are not responses when you are in difficult times. They are coping mechanisms that imitate independence from God which should not be.

So in the prayers for difficult times when you don’t know what to do, pray to be closer to God.

Consider using these prayers for difficult times when you don’t know what to pray to express your deepest concerns to God.

Father, let Your peace saturate my heart. Calm the raging storm around me and let me enjoy the benefits of trusting in You.

Isaiah 26:3“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.”

This is you praying the promise of God in Isaiah 26 verse 3. His word says that He will keep anyone in perfect peace if their mind stays on Him.

In the midst of the trying times that you are facing, you could lose sight of Jesus. It happened with Peter. He was walking on water and he kept walking for as long as he was looking to Jesus.

In verse 30 of Matthew 14, the Bible says “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

The wind did not just come up. Peter had been in the wind all these while yet he was still walking on the water.

What changed was Peter looking away from Jesus to look at the wind. As long as your gaze is on Jesus, the storms can be raging but your victory is sure.

Lord, help me to understand that You are always with me. Teach me that You will always be there to help me

Psalm 46:1–2“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”

This prayer might seem small but it is important. It will condition your mind to only see Jesus as your source.

And when you do, it does not matter how difficult the times get, you will pull through by His ever present help and mercies.

Lord, it is in You that I find rest. It is in You that I find succor. And I choose to run to You even in these times

Matthew 11:28–29“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

There is always going to be that desire to try other means to fix your problems. But this prayer for difficult times when you do not know what to do is to remind you that you have a friend who has already told you to come to Him when you feel the way you are feeling right now.
