It will interest you to know that God has made several amazing promises to us concerning our children and the devil will do anything to rob us of these blessings.
If you have a child who you are trusting God for an intervention in their life concerning their academics, these prayers for a child struggling in school will help you take the matter to a higher authority for immediate resolution.
Prayers for a Child Struggling In School
Prayer for Gratitude
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18.
We should always have it in our minds that the first thing to do when things seem to be wrong is to give thanks to God. It shows that no problem is too big to take away your grateful heart,
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: because his mercy endureth forever – Psalm 118:1.
By this, we recognize that whether it is hard in school, it is still a blessing that they can be in school and that means there is always hope for improvement.
Prayer Point:
- Lord, help me to always see the best in my children and appreciate You always for the help granted and the improvements in their academics, whether it is already visible or not.
Prayer for Wisdom and Understanding
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. – James 1:5
Praying daily for wisdom has to be the wisest thing to do as a child of a parent whose child is in school or struggling academically.
The Bible made us understand that King Solomon requested a gift he valued – a wise discerning heart. God answered his prayer, and that gift brought the king great insight, wealth, and fame.
Get wisdom, get understanding… Do not forsake wisdom. – Proverbs 4:5-7
Prayer Point:
- Lord, grant my children wisdom and understanding in their studies. Help them to comprehend and retain what they learn.
- God, you promised to give wisdom generously to those who ask. I pray for my child to receive this gift to aid their learning.
Prayer for Focus and Concentration
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. – Proverbs 4:25.
This scripture tells us simply that our focus should be strictly fixed on Christ. We shouldn’t have an attention that is easily divided.
Just like Peter in Matthew 14: 22-33 who took his gaze away from Christ for what seemed like two seconds and he began to sink. So note, that having a focused mind is very crucial.
Prayer Point:
- Pray for your child to maintain their focus on their studies. Pray that the lord takes away anything that seems like feeble attention.
- Father, help my child to focus and concentrate in school. Remove any distractions and help them stay attentive in class.
Prayer for Confidence
As humans, we know that it can be a horrible feeling when you can do a thing but you’re unable to do it due to fear.
Timidity is one thing you can call a spirit that holds back. Children are a heritage of God, yes we all know that, so you are to refuse any form of fear or low self-esteem that seems to be the first thing that comes to your child’s mind.
That “I can’t do it” mentality must be crushed. Your child’s first step to true confidence is looking at God’s Word.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. – Philippians 4:13.
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. – Jeremiah 7:7-8a.
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalm 27:1
Prayer Points:
- My Father, build my children’s confidence in all their abilities. Help them to believe in themselves and their potential to succeed.
- My God, I come against the spirit of timidity that seems to weigh my children down. Give them the spirit of boldness, in the mighty name of Jesus.
Prayer for Strength and Endurance
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. – Isaiah 40:31.
Prayer Points:
- Lord, give my child the strength and endurance to persevere through challenges. Help them not to give up but to push forward with determination.
- God, I know you renew strength for those who hope in you. Today, I pray that my child receives this renewal. I pray that my child’s energy be refilled in all aspects of life.
Prayer for Retentive Memory
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. – John 14:26.
The scripture makes us understand that the Helper who is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.
He is referred to as the Helper, whose primary function is to teach and remind us of everything that Jesus Christ taught us.
God Himself will come and live inside of us, he loves us too much to abandon us when we need him, and he will never leave us.
Prayer Points:
- My Father and my God, enhance my child’s memory. Help them to recall what they have studied in every aspect of their academics.
- Lord, you said in your word that the Holy Spirit helps us remember. I pray for this divine assistance to my children to help them in their studies.
Prayer for Unmerited Favor
And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered unto him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand. – Genesis 39:4-6.
Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. – Proverbs 3:4.
Finding Favor in God’s eyes automatically leads to favor with others. Let’s think of Joseph. Who would have thought that even though he passed through rough paths his dreams would become reality as the butler became a vessel over his destiny?
Prayer Point:
- Pray for favor to extend to your child’s relationships with his/her teachers.
- My God, I pray for favor with my child’s teachers. Let them find understanding and support from their educators.
Prayer for Peer Relationships
Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.’ – 1 Corinthians 15:33
The Bible made it clear to us that the people we manage to keep in our lives can either help us be better or mislead us, and in the case of our children, we cannot necessarily know who they keep as friends or mingle with, as parents we can only pray to God to help them choose wisely.
Prayer Points:
- Father, surround my child with positive and encouraging friends. Help them to build relationships that uplift and support their academic journey, in the name of Jesus.
- Father, I know that good company is essential for character development. I pray for my child to be surrounded by only positive influences by your mercy.
Prayer for Anxiety Relief
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7.
You know what gives me so much peace and confidence in God? It is the fact that He knows it all.
He knows every emotion, everything we would feel and He already gave us assurance and all we need to overcome it all.
So, standing in the gap for our children has to be the best decision we can make as parents. Standing and saying No to anxiety that attempts to take the best of your seed will yield results in the name of Jesus.
Prayer Point:
- Lord, calm any anxiety or fear my child may have about school. Fill them with peace and confidence in Your presence.
- Father, turn my child’s what-ifs to even ifs. Help them to know that whatever happens, You are in control and You will always take the wheel.
Prayer Of Academic Excellence
⁵ And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
⁶ And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
⁷ And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
⁸ For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. – 2 Peter 1:5-8
Biblical excellence has a foundation in a character that is first of all built on faith in God. As parents, we should create an environment for our children that shows faith and nothing related to doubt.
We should nurture these kids to know that true academic excellence glorifies the Lord and it is not just about trying to be the best in the school or better than that friend.
Prayer Points:
- Show me Your ways, LORD, teach me Your paths. Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.
- Father, thank you for being our teacher and always showing us your truth.
- Teach my child/children, show us your truth daily and whenever it seems tough, in the name of Jesus.
Prayer for Joy in Learning
For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. – Proverbs 2:10.
Having pleasure and knowing that you love what you’re doing has to be the best feeling in the world because you know that you have dominated that program or course. It is only joy and no anxiety.
Prayer Point:
- As my child goes about his/her lessons and classes, I pray that You will provide them with endless happy moments and memories they can look back on when they get older.
- May my child wake up and be joyful about school. Please give them heavenly, lasting joy and encouragement as they grow and learn.
- Dear God, help my child find joy and pleasure in learning new things.
Prayer for a Teachable Spirit
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you. – James 4:10.
This prayer emphasizes the importance of humility and the willingness to learn from others. It takes God’s grace to be able to learn under certain people. Maybe because they are not welcoming or they just aren’t the best people to learn from.
By praying for teachability, you are asking God to help your child stay open to instruction and correction, fostering an attitude of growth and continuous improvement.
Prayer Points:
- My Father, I come before You today to lift my child in prayer. I ask that You grant her/him a humble heart and a teachable spirit. Help him/her to recognize the value in learning from others, be it their teachers, friends, or family. Give her/him the wisdom to understand that he/she doesn’t have to know everything and that there is great strength in seeking knowledge and advice from those around them.
- Lord, please remove any pride or stubbornness that may hinder them from receiving instruction and correction. Instead, fill her with a willingness to listen, a desire to grow, and a readiness to embrace new ideas and perspectives. May they always be open to learning and developing their skills, not just in academics, but in all areas of life.
- Help my child to see that teachability is a strength and a virtue and that through humility and a willingness to learn, You will lift them and guide them to success. Thank You for Your continuous guidance and support. I trust that You are shaping them into the person You want them to be.
Prayer to Stand Out in Class
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. – Matthew 5:16.
This prayer is centered around the idea of standing out not just academically, but also in character and faith. It references Matthew 5:16 to emphasize that your child’s achievements and conduct should glorify God.
The prayer asks for strength, focus, and opportunities for your children to shine, while also calling attention to the importance of humility and kindness.
Prayer Points:
- Father, I come before You today to pray for my children as they sail in their academic journey. Lord, I ask that You help them be distinct in their class, not for their own glory, but so that they may be a shining example of Your love, grace, and wisdom.
- Father, fill them with the desire to excel in their studies and give them the determination to work hard and stay focused. Help them to understand difficult concepts quickly and to apply their knowledge effectively. May their diligence and enthusiasm inspire their mates and earn the respect of the staff as well.
- Lord, I pray that their character reflects the teachings of Your Word. Let their integrity, and humility set them apart. When others see their actions and hear them speak, may they see a reflection of Your light. Give them the courage to speak up, share ideas, and contribute meaningfully in class discussions.
Prayer for Favor and Influence
Now God had brought Daniel into favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. – Daniel 1:9.
Prayer Points:
- Lord, just as You gave Daniel favor in the eyes of those around him, I pray that my children find favor with their teachers and classmates. May their character and hard work lead to positive influence and opportunities. In the name of Jesus
- Father, give them influence and make them sit before kings and their voices be heard in the mighty name of Jesus.
Prayer for Resilience and Adaptability
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. – Isaiah 40:31.
The scripture above emphasizes the need for renewed strength in the Lord. The prayer is about asking the Lord for perseverance in facing academic challenges and flexibility in adapting to changes.
A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he sends forth judgment unto victory. – Matthew 12:20.
Prayer Points:
- Help my children to adapt to new situations and changes in their academic environment. Whether it’s adjusting to a new school, a different teacher, or a challenging subject, give them the flexibility to embrace these changes with a positive attitude. Let them see each challenge as an opportunity to grow and learn.
- Lord, surround them with supportive friends, encouraging teachers, and a loving family that will uplift them during tough times. May they always feel Your presence and know that they can rely on You for strength and guidance.
Final Thoughts on Prayers for a Child Struggling In School
Prayer changes things and it can turn your child from the class dummy to the star of the class. This is even the promise of God for them. The Bible says that
Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion. – Isaiah 8:18.
Being the class dummy isn’t performing signs and wonders. So, you can prayerfully establish that switch. However, prayer is not the only thing you must do. Seek counsel from educational officers as you pray.
