Prayers Against Bad Dreams with Scriptures

Dreams are part of the things we see happening at night. Sometimes, they can be sweet, lovely, and directional. Other times they can be horrific and torment-inducing. This article on prayers against bad dreams with scriptures provides several prayers and Bible verses that you can pray to help you overcome whatever negativity the devil may have projected to you through your dreams.

The Bible assures us that God is our protector and we need not fear any evil, whether it comes by day or night. 

Psalm 91:5 says,

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day.

This verse reassures us that God watches over us, even in our sleep.

In Daniel 2, King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream that left him anxious and sleepless. He sought interpretation from his wise men, but only Daniel, through God’s revelation, could provide the meaning. 

This shows that while dreams can be significant, they are under God’s control, and He alone can provide the peace and understanding we need.

Prayer for Deliverance from Nightmares

1. Father, I come before You, seeking Your divine intervention over my life. Your Word says that I will not be afraid when I lie down and that my sleep shall be and will be sweet. 
2. I decree and declare that every dream sent to disrupt my peace is canceled in the name of Jesus. 
3. Lord, I rebuke every spirit of fear that tries to take charge of my dreams. Fill my nights with Your presence. In Jesus’ powerful name, Amen. 

Breaking the Influence of Evil Dreams

When you have negative dreams, fear overwhelms you. This fear can make you anxious and create doubt in your heart. These prayers will help you handle the influence of evil dreams on your mind and heart.

I know of a saying that life is more spiritual than we could ever imagine. Evil dreams can bring confusion and fear, affecting our daily lives and we must not know that what is happening physically was caused by an encounter in the spirit.

So, I want us to always believe in the truth that God has equipped us with power and a sound mind to overcome any spiritual attack, even in our dreams.

PRAYERS:

1. My Father, I reject and cancel every evil dream that tries to sow the seed of fear, confusion, or doubt in my heart. I declare over my life and my household that no weapon formed against us, even in our dreams, shall prosper, in Jesus name. 
2. By the authority in Your name Jesus, I take control of my dream and cast out every spirit that is not from You. Fill my mind with clarity so that my dreams align with Your will in Jesus’s name.

Prayer for Protection Against Spiritual Attacks in Dreams

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? – Psalm 27:1, NIV

Come to think of it, spiritual attacks in dreams can be disorienting especially when we are unable to react to certain confrontations. 

PRAYERS:

1. O Lord, my light and my salvation, I stand firm in the understanding that You are my stronghold so there’s no reason to fear. I cancel every spiritual attack that manifests in my dreams, whether it comes as fear or temptation.
2. I am covered with the blood of Jesus, and I decree that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. 
3. Lord, surround me with Your angels, guarding me against every attempt of the enemy to infiltrate my dreams. In Jesus name. Amen

Overcoming Recurrent Bad Dreams

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. – 2 Corinthians 10:4

PRAYERS: 

1. My battle bearer, I recognize that the battle I face is not of flesh and blood but against spiritual forces. I come against every recurrent bad dream that seeks to establish a stronghold in my life. I cancel these dreams in the name of Jesus and declare that they have no power over me. 
2. I exercise control through the mighty weapons of Your Word and through prayer to pull down every stronghold that the enemy tries to build through my dreams.

Clarity and Discernment in Dreams

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5, NIV

The Bible specifically told us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask and know that God doesn’t find fault in telling us what we asked for. 

Most times, dreams can be really complicated and when you find the meaning it is still too complicated. Now we are going to talk to Abba, the giver of all wisdom.

1. Lord, I ask of you this day for wisdom and great discernment in my dreams. Some dreams may be warnings, others may be distractions, so Lord  I need Your guidance and help to understand these dreams.
2. I cancel every dream that brings confusion or leads me astray. Open my spiritual eyes and ears to hear Your voice clearly, even in my sleep. Help me to know the difference between dreams that come from You and those that are from the enemy.

Breaking Generational Curses Manifesting in Dreams

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole. – Galatians 3:13, NIV

The beginning of every physical manifestation begins with a dream. When there was going to be seven years of bountiful harvest and seven years of famine, it started with a dream. 

So, generational curses can definitely begin to take form from our dreams, and it is only right that we break that yolk.

1. Oh Lord Jesus, You have redeemed me from every curse by becoming a curse for me. I stand on this truth and cancel every generational curse that seeks to manifest in my dreams. 
2. I declare that every inherited negative pattern is broken by the power of the Holy Ghost.
3. I renounce every curse that has been passed down through my bloodline and decree that it shall not have power over me or my descendants.
4. My dreams will only reflect my reality in Christ Jesus. Amen

Protection Against Nightly Spiritual Warfare

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 6:12, NKJV

Jesus told a parable on the wheat and tares in Matthew 13:24-30. The enemy sowed weeds among the wheat in the parable while the owner was asleep. This tells us how important it is for spiritual vigilance. We need to cultivate a strong spiritual foundation to withstand these attacks.

PRAYERS:

1. Father, I stand in the authority of Jesus Christ and cancel every bad dream resulting from spiritual warfare. I put on the full armor of God, and I stand firm against the enemy’s schemes, even when I sleep.

Breaking the Power of Deception in Dreams

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – John 10:10

Deception does not just occur between neighbors or friends. The enemies will strive to turn you against the truth even in your dreams. 

These little lies can definitely lead us astray or cause confusion. This prayer pronounces the believer’s devotion to truth and the life of abundance Christ offers, rejecting all forms of deception.

PRAYERS

1. Lord Jesus, I thank You for coming to give me abundant life. I’ve never been more grateful. I cancel every dream that is rooted in deception and lies, sent by the enemy to steal, kill, or destroy my peace. I declare that I will not be easily manipulated by any lies in my dreams. 
2. Lord, fill my mind with Your truth so that I can know the truth and reject every lie. I choose to walk in the abundant life You have given me, and I refuse to allow any dream take away everything You have given to me.

Reversing Dangerous Declarations Made in Dreams

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the Lord. – Isaiah 54:17

Words spoken in dreams, even by our subconscious, can have an intense effect on our physical life. It may be difficult to believe but it is the truth. This prayer shows the necessity to take authority over any negative utterances or unknown covenants made over our lives.

PRAYERS:

1. My Father, I nullify every declaration or word spoken against me in my dreams. I cancel every curse, negative word, or covenant made in the dream realm that I accepted unknowingly. 
2. I join my faith keenly with your word that says no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and I condemn every tongue that has risen against me in judgment. I break the power of every negative word and I  decree and declare that only Your words and promises will have power in my life.

Prayer for Spiritual Protection During Sleep

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. – Psalm 4:8

As Christians, we often forget that sleep is also a time when we need God’s protection because it is always a time of spiritual battles whether we like it or not. 

We pray today to ask for God’s covering as we sleep, ensuring that our rest is undisturbed by any spiritual attacks and victory over every lingering battle.

1. Lord, as I lay my head down to sleep, I pray for Your divine protection over my spirit, soul, and body. Surround me with Your angels and let Your peace be like a blanket over me. 
2. I declare that no evil will befall me. Let every door to the enemy in my dreams be closed, in Jesus’ victorious name, Amen.
